Instituto Ar works to ensure that air quality in Brazil is treated as a public health and environmental priority. Through political coordination and the strengthening of environmental governance, the initiative seeks to translate technical and legal advances into effective policies, promote climate justice, and ensure a healthier future for all generations.
Since 2018, we have been working to develop the first National Air Quality Policy, which was enacted in 2024—a milestone in the country’s commitment to health and the environment. Our prominent role was recognized at the law’s launch event, where we represented civil society alongside Minister Marina Silva.
We contributed to the revision of national air quality standards, culminating in the approval of Conama Resolution 506/2024. This historic standard aligns Brazilian standards with WHO guidelines and sets progressive targets that promise to significantly reduce air pollution in the country.
